End of Unit Benchmark Test

Dear Parents,

I hope the information provided below will answer many questions during the past few days.
There has been a few questions regarding the 'End of Unit' benchmark test.
Please be informed that we still have one more unit to complete (this will hopefully be completed by the end of week 8) and then we will spend week 9 doing revisions and touching up on all needed areas.
The end of the unit exam will take place in week 10.

The exam will be set out in the following order:
Part 1:
(children are to read a story and answer the questions)
- the children will need to write a written response to part one.
- the children will need to read a letter and answer the questions given.
- written response (talking about the main idea of the two stories read)

Part 2:
High-Frequency Words (The children have been learning these and completing the worksheets in their Readers and Writers Notebook. The words are from all five (5) units)

Phonics-looking at the sounds and an ending of a sounds (for example, which word has the same beginning sound as blimp (hug, bread, blue).

Part 4:
Writing convention (identifying complete sentences, questions, command, subject of a sentence and predicates)

Part 5:
Writing: Writing a realistic fiction.

I hope I have provided you with much needed information. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have further inquiries.

Week 6 Teaching Plan

Dear Parents,

Please note that week 5 Language Arts lessons are the same as week 6 because the children were learning the conventions of writing for week 5. So all L.A lessons in week 5 will be conducted in week 6.

After a written quiz in the classroom on writing a fictional story, I felt that the children needed more practise with their writing. I do not want to rush them into learning a new form of writing convention when they are not solely confident with the writing requirements for fictional stories.

If you have any questions regarding the lessons, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your time and your support.
